Understanding Our Licensed Trade Insurance Products

Choosing the right insurance cover for your licensed trade clients is key to protecting their business and giving them confidence in your advice. Whether they run a lively pub, a late-night venue, or something in between, our Licensed Trade Insurance Portfolio offers tailored protection to match their needs. In this article, we’ll break down the key differences between our products to help you place your clients on the most appropriate cover — and ensure you quote under the correct scheme on our quotation portal every time.

Cover for Pubs & Wine Bars

Our Public House & Wine Bar policy is suitable for a wide range of premises, including independent free houses, national chains, wet-led venues, and gastro pubs. It includes accidental damage as standard and is well-suited to family pubs, venues with cooking facilities or outdoor play areas, and micro-breweries where brewing contributes up to 50% of sales. The policy also provides cover for pubs with letting rooms, accommodating up to 10 rooms as part of the standard offering.*

Cover for Nightclub, Entertainment & Late-Opening Venues

The Nightclub policy is built for high-energy, late-trading venues such as nightclubs, live music venues, gentlemen’s clubs, and late-night bars. It offers flexible cover for more complex entertainment-based risks, including specialist equipment, events, and security requirements, with no restrictions on opening hours.

Choosing the Right Product

The main deciding factor when selecting between our pub and nightclub products is operating hours. Businesses that trade primarily as pubs and close by 1 am (with extended hours to 2 am at weekends) should be placed on our Public House & Wine Bar policy. Those with extended or unrestricted opening hours — particularly venues focused on late-night entertainment — should be placed on our Nightclub product.

By selecting the right product at quotation stage, you’ll avoid unnecessary rekeying and ensure your client receives cover that accurately reflects their trading profile. Quoting under the correct scheme from the outset helps maintain efficiency and reduces delays in processing.

Consistent Features Across the Portfolio

Both policies include a core set of features designed to meet the demands of licensed trade businesses. Cover extends to gaming machines, interactive games, mobile bars, door staff (employed or third-party), food service, live music, entertainment, events, and outbuildings — ensuring comprehensive protection regardless of the venue type.
